Maybelline Color Tattoo Review - Bold Gold, Pomegranate Punk and Edgy Emerald

I've been wanting to try the Maybelline Color Tattoos for quite some time now! I've heard mostly good things about them, and I found them at my local Superstore for $7.99. I picked up Bold Gold and Pomegranate Punk to try. Then later in the week, I picked up Edgy Emerald at Shoppers Drug Mart (during 20x the points) for $9.99.

The first shade I tried was Bold Gold. I applied this on my eye using my finger and without a primer. Big mistake for me! There was major creasing and melting after only a couple hours. I totally blame this on my oily lids.

The next day I tried Pomegranate Punk. This time, I applied my primer of choice (Too Faced Shadow Insurance) and after the primer was dry, I gently patted my lids with a tissue to soak up any remaning oil. I just wanted to be sure they were completely dry and oil free. I then applied the eyeshadow with my finger. I'm happy to say that Pomegranate Punk lasted me late into the night and was still looking perfect when I removed my makeup before bed. :)

Today I've been wearing Edgy Emerald for about 9 hours, and it's still good to go. :) Again, I applied this using a primer, and I blotted my eyelid gently with a tissue before application.

I think all three colours are super gorgeous, and I can't wait to try more shades. I'm looking at Audacious Asphalt next.

Here's my swatches, without flash:

And with flash:

I've been playing around with these eyeshadows to try and create different looks for the past few days. I'll be sure to post a blog when I find something worth sharing!

Have you tried the Color Tattoos or any other cream shadows? I was very close to picking up a Shiseido Shimmering Eye Color this past weekend, but the price was pretty steep.

Thanks for reading! :)

  1. I have one of these in the Bronze colour and really want to try the new neutral shades they released. I find it better quality than the MAC Paint Pots.

    1. Which shades are the new releases? I'll have to look them up! I was surprised they only carried 9 shades...I've seen reviews for way more. I haven't tried the Paint Pots yet, but I'm glad to hear these are better. Thanks, Christine! :)

    1. Haha teal's my fave right now too! I find it's more seafoam or teal than it is Emerald, but I like it it. :) Thanks, T! xo

    2. Oh, and apparently they go on sale often! I think Steph Lau's post said she bought hers for $4.99 or something. I'll let you know if I see a good price somewhere!

  4. I think these look like fun, although I am not big on eyeshadow - I like that these are super easy for even the eyeshadow challenged like myself ;O

    1. They are fun, and yeah super easy to apply! :) I wasn't big on shadow either until this past year. I would always buy it and then rarely wear it! I've promised myself that if I'm going to buy more, I must wear it!

      Thanks, gl0ssy! :)

  9. I have been meaning to try the colour tattoo shadows forever too! First on my list is Bad About Bronze. The cranberry and turquoise shades look very bold, I would love to see how you would incorporate these into a makeup look!

    1. Thanks, Alma! :) I've been playing around with them for the last few days. I definitely think the Pomegranate one is more versatile and easier to pull off, but the Emerald one is so pretty. I just picked up Audacious Asphalt as well, and I'm really loving that one too. Bad About Bronze is next on my list! :) Thanks so much for stopping by xo
